Parathyroid Scan
You have been scheduled for a parathyroid study that involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.

Patient Preparation
Discontinue any thyroid medication prior to the test (your doctor will instruct you regarding this). Please let us know if you have had any iodine-containing preparations, such as for radiographic studies (i.e. CT scan, IVP).

Procedure
This is a two-part study. On your first visit, you will lie on a table and receive an injection of a small amount of radioactive material into a vein in your arm. Pictures will be taken immediately and you will be asked to return in 3-4 hours for more pictures.
