*Note: Due to the limited diagnostic value, it is recommended that brain scintigraphy be utilized only when there is limited access to CAT Scan*

  • diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident
  • differentiation between CVA and tumor
  • evaluation of vascularity of an intracerebral mass lesion
  • diagnosis of arteriovenous malformation
  • detection of subdural hematoma
  • evaluation of carotid artery blood flow
  • detection of source of transient ischemic attacks
  • detection of congenital or acquired vascular abnormalities in the head and neck
  • detection and location of large encephalic cysts
  • ascertaining cerebral (brain) death

Lacrimal Scan Summary of Clinical Indications
  • the indication for lacrimal duct scintigraphy is excessive lacrimation when no systemic explanation of the epiphora is evident. The procedure is non-invasive and is the only truly physiologic method for evaluating lacrimal drainage
Salivary Scan Summary of Clinical Indications
  • used to establish the functional capacity of salivary gland tissue
  • to demonstrate whether space occupying lesions of the salivary gland are metastatic or primary
  • to aid in diagnosis of:
    1. Sjogren's syndrome
    2. lymphomatous infiltration
    3. mixed parotid tumors
    4. Warthin's tumor
    5. metastatic lesions
    6. abscess
    7. cyst

  • reveals the patency of the blood supply to the testes to aid in the differentiation of testicular torsion from acute epididymitis

Breast Imaging Summary of Clinical Indications
*Note: Currently scintimammography has not received approval by the Ministry of Health for Ontario, as an insured service. We hope that approval will be granted in the very near future.*

  • evaluate breast cancer in patients in whom mammography is non-diagnostic or difficult to interpet (e.g. the presence of scar tissue, implants, previous mastectomy or mammographically dense breast tissue)
  • assist in identifying mulitcentric carcinomas in patients with tissue diagnosis of breast cancer.
  • may be useful inthe evaluation of the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast carcinoma.

Allergy Skin Test
We test for the most common allergens that may cause respiratory or sinus symptoms. These include: House Dust, Mites (D.Farinae), Feathers, Cat Epith., Dog Epith., Mixed Moulds, Aspergillus, Mixed Tree, Mixed Grass, Ragweed, Mixed Weeds, and Goldenrod.
