Bone Densitometry
You have been scheduled for a Bone Densitometry study which involves the use of a small amount of x-rays and has no side effects. Please notify us if you have had back surgery or a hip replacement using metal clips.
Patient Preparation
No barium contrast or IV contrast studies for one week prior to BMD.
Please wear comfortable clothing with no metal or zippers to the exam. You may be asked to change clothes prior to the exam if necessary.
Procedure
In the exam room you will be scanned (see photo) for
approximately 10 minutes. We will be measuring the mineral content of
your bones, typically in the lumbar spine and hip.
